Volunteer Work in Cambodia @ Kampal Village 15-19Dec 2009

One of the most meaningful and unforgettable tour-leading in my life to Cambodia! I wanted to show you more pics but I'm really too tired to upload all... though I complained so much about VJC group previously, but I'm surprised everything turns out well and I'm touched by their effort in making a 'Thank-You Card' for me on our last day! I am glad and pleased my hard work is recognised and acknowledged.... I am so happy to be part of this volunteer project. All these small-sized children are so poor... they do have money to go the city, or money to buy any candy, let alone school books. There's no nice clean clothes for them, and many can't afford a decent pair of shoes, thus they have to walk to school barefooted. And guess what, every time to school is about 8kilometres away. I feel for them and I showed Brandon all those photos I took at Kampal Village.

On our way to the village on Day 2, I bought 4 boxes of 80 Lollies each to give out to the students. All of them happily enjoying their sweets... but it was not enough and I regretted for not buying more. The response was over-whelming and I told the older kids the young ones will have the priority to the sweets. Our Singapore kids are so FORTUNATE! Only a few can speak simple English, many of them have never take a bus to Phnom Penh City before. Though the bus fare at USD2 per person seems cheap to us, many families monthly income not exceeding USD10. This is my first experience and I had the wildest thought to adopt a kid at the village.

PropNex and VJC were satisfied with our services and they would love to work with us the following year for the next project at Kampal Village. I will be more than willingly to participate and I shall Brandon the next time when I am there. It would be a great experience for him and I want him to know, he shouldn't take things for granted in life after he witness the poorer side of another country. I want him to join in and help out, learn from those children how hard the life is at another part of the world. We must be content with what we have now.
