S in Accra, Ghana

S has safely touched down Accra, the capital of the small, West African country of Ghana. At this moment, it's their wee hours at 00.43am versus our 08.43am. We are 8 hours ahead of them. Obviously, his stay is not fanciful, he's putting up at a motel...not too bad cos the room looks clean and tidy. He will check out in another 2 days before he board the vessel. By then, we could not 'wats aps' anymore. But the least, we still able to contact each other via email or occasional calls via satellite. The foodie image was his lunch yesterday. The fish...errr...really turns me off... the fried rice looks more presentable...more appetizing.

Brief Intro of Accra

Since its independence in 1957 from its colonial master, the United Kingdom, it is projecting itself fast and furiously as "gateway to West Africa. With its back mostly turned to the Gulf of Guinea, taking little advantage of its waterfront location, Accra crawls up and over a modern landscape, gobbling up real estate and producing a chaotic low-rise skyline. Originally a scattering of villages controlled by Ga chiefs, today it’s a sprawling city that extends eastwards almost 25km to the neighbouring city of Tema. Its congested and pockmarked pavements; baking streets that in the midday heat can make a block feel like a kilometre; shanty towns and genteel leafy suburbia; chop bars and gourmet restaurants; hiplife and highlife; all combine to make Accra at once exhausting and exhilarating.
